Atsuko Chiba come full-circle with the release of their self-titled fourth long-player, positively rethinking their sound while unearthing six idiosyncratic gems that resonate deeply with their experimental ethos. Each sprawling sonic essay is a world of its own, yet Atsuko Chiba (April 24th, 2026 via Mothland) remains iridescently cohesive, putting on display an a-priori array of polychromatic sounds. Drawing inspiration from visionary artists such as Mark Lanegan, Beak>, Talk Talk, Can, or Portishead, the five-piece offer 32 minutes of ethereal exploration. Though the Montréal outfit have been introducing more and more singing with every release, their namesake sees Atsuko Chiba further wield vocals as a means to delve into their intrinsic meta. And with this introspection comes a lyrical universe that coexists effortlessly with wildly evocative soundscapes. Atsuko Chiba is all at once a gritty post-rock epic and an intimate hymn to self-discovery, made possible by creativity, but even more so by collective self-reflection.

Rooted in the noise rock and post-hardcore traditions, and steeped in a DIY ethic that runs deep in Canadian underground culture, the record is uncompromising in its refusal to be anything other than what it is: immediate, self-determined, and built entirely by the hands that imagined it. With sophomore full-length Bingo!, La Sécurité have crafted yet another genuine and inspired collection of beautiful curiosities. Following up on their critically-acclaimed debut Stay Safe! (June 16th, 2023 via Mothland), the five-piece further implement polyrhythms, counter-intuitive chord changes, as well as subtle melodic and harmonic dissonance. The resulting forays into subversive pop are catchy and dancey, while also challenging the listener via eclectic, often edgy arrangements. The album sees the Montréal/Tiohtià:ke collective introduce even more elements from no wave, noise rock, and shoegaze to their signature alloy of bilingual “spring-loaded post-punk” (Post-Trash), all the while “channeling art punk and new wave into something jittery, confrontational, and irresistibly kinetic.” (Range) In turn, Bingo!
