Anthony Piazza

VJ

Anthony Piazza’s exhibition of stage design involves the manipulation of light and projections in real-time. His performances feature experimentation with real-time audio reactive visual effects, video feedback with live cameras, and triggered clips with layering alongside manually controlled effects. Piazza also utilizes rotoscoping, an animation technique that animators use to trace over motion picture footage, frame by frame, to produce realistic and/or surreal action. With projection mapping, he then creates unique visuals from one or multiple projectors. Over the course of his career, he has provided live visuals for the likes of Cadence Weapons, METZ, Teke::Teke, Elephant Stone, and Annie-Claude Deschênes (Duchess Says), also taking part in notable events such as SXSW, M for Montreal, Winnipeg Folk Fest, FME, and Up Here.

It’s mid-afternoon inside historic Montreal venue La Sala Rossa and people are running around, lobbing questions at a man in glasses sporting a well-kept afro. He is Anthony Piazza, a projectionist and video DJ who, in the last few years, has risen to become one of the premiere visual backdrop operators for underground live music shows throughout Quebec.
