PRIORS (Montréal, QC), led by prolific singer-songwriter and producer Chance Hutchison (Sonic Avenues, New Vogue, Private Lives, etc.), have been busy multiplying their raw, dynamic and oh-so! melodic punk releases. The angular rock & roll outfit is back with Daffodil, a new album set to drop via Montréal-based boutique label Mothland on June 2nd, 2023.
Since 2017, PRIORS has released six recordings, including three full-lengths: LP1 (Twintoe in Europe and Hutchison’s own imprint Brain Gum in North America) in 2017, New Pleasure (Slovenly) in 2018, and My Punishment on Earth (Drink & Drive Records) in 2020. Though the catalog speaks for itself, the five-piece has eloquently transcended mere recording-artist status, and is now widely-considered a mainstay in the modern punk scene. Their shows erupt with blissfully brutal musicality, while also carrying the substantial ethos of a booming community. Over the years, this formidable subversive hit factory has toured Canada, The United States and Europe, sharing the stage with the likes of The Mummies, Oblivians, Quintron and Simply Saucer, amongst others, while also taking part in a slew of festivals such as M for Montreal and Goner Fest.
Also featuring guitarists Max Desharnais (Sonic Avenues, New Vogue) and Sebastien Godin (Sonic Avenues), drummer Andrew Demers (The Famines), as well as bass player Alan Hildebrandt (Tabarnak), the hopeful and uplifting Daffodil (June 2nd, 2023 via Mothland) should no doubt please fans of Jay Reatard, The Buzzcocks, The Spits, The Saints or Wire.

“[PRIORS] make mutant garage punk, equal parts dystopian attitude, adrenalized riffage and a misting of turpentine.”
“Montreal five-piece Priors pummel their listeners with spacey garage punk.”
“[...] bruising, high-energy, no-frills punk rock.”
“It didn’t take long for singer Chance Hutchison to be shirtless and covered in sweat as he led his band through a clever and tightly wound set of rippers [...] At one point during their set, someone tried to hand Hutchison a full glass of beer — ”I’m sober,” he quickly retorted before the band broke into another song. Proof that you don’t need to drink to be a maniac on-stage, PRIORS are setting an excellent example for a new era of punk rock.”
“It’s sonically saturated to all hell and sounds like a party.”
